The so-called Vorwerk was built in 1816 and became the domicile of the bailiwick in 1841. After the bailiffs were abolished in 1866, the building was inhabited by the last bailiff until 1882.

Scheeßel District Bailiwick
After a long, changeable history and times of decay, the Scheeßel District Bailiwick now serves as the Scheeßel administrative center for the energy supplier EWE and is therefore one of the most important sights in the core town of Scheeßel.

Around 1300 the Verden monastery was divided into the offices of Rotenburg and Visselhövede. The four geographic regions (subdistricts) Scheeßel, Schneverdingen, Neuenkirchen and Visselhövede belonged to Verden. With such abundance of power, there was also the risk of abuse of power by the governor.
