The Omaha Beach American Cemetery was dedicated in 1956 and commemorates the U.S. soldiers who fell during the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944. The approximately 70-hectare site contains the remains of 9,388 soldiers, whose graves are marked with white marble crosses and Stars of David. At its center stands the statue "The Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves."
