Of the original 12 towers of the medieval city fortifications, the Klausturm is one of the few that have been preserved. It is one of the remains of the former city wall and still refers to the historic past of the city of Bad Hersfeld. The Klausturm was used as a watchtower and prison tower at the time and served as a kind of fortification of the Klaustor, which is located on the northeast side of the old town. In 1988, the tower was extensively restored.
