The ascent to the Kölner Hütte is also doable with children. If it's warm, take enough water with you. At the hut itself the food (in the upper hut old building) is really first class. On the way back you can take a short break at the Messner Joch. It has a nice playground.

There is a very nice hotel from which you can admire the Rosengarten massif in all its illuminations. I have just come from Tiers and stayed at the Hotel Panorama. Here you are at an altitude of 1200 meters and have immediate access to beautiful hiking destinations such as the Grasleitenhütte. You can also take the bus to the Niggerpass and then do the 3 hut hike with the Käsealm and the Jocherhütte.
