A monster of steel and concrete, the Pont de Normandie (1995) defies all laws of gravity, yet is exceptionally light and safe. The bridge can withstand the heaviest wind gusts (440 km/hr) and collisions of the heaviest cargo ships. Sensors in the working roof warn the responsible services in the event of black ice and the toll staff keep a permanent eye on traffic via cameras. Total cost approximately 411 million euros.

What a huge bridge,
Please be careful when driving over there is only a narrow unsecured cycle path and it goes up at 5%, in strong winds there is a high risk as the bridge has a span of over 3 km.

It turns out that there is no separate lane for bicycles, as we had expected! There is a narrow footpath separated by a low concrete threshold, on which we push the bikes. Riding on both the road and the narrow footpath seems too dangerous or even forbidden. It is exciting to walk over the 2km long bridge in a strong westerly wind!
