Between 1856 and 1879, the Pegau court office was the lowest administrative unit after the abolition of patrimonial legislation and the liquidation of the Pegau Rent and Justice Office in the Kingdom of Saxony. It had its official seat in the city of Pegau.

On the site of the former summer residence of the Duke of Zeitz, hence the name Schloßplatz, the old Amstbau was demolished in 1909, and in 1912 the new building was erected. Today it is a sheltered living, under the name Schloßresidenz.
