The Elisabethfehn Canal connects the Ems with the Hunte from Oldenburg via the Leda. The canal is an inland waterway and there are a number of pleasure boats sailing along it. The bike path along the canal is wonderfully paved and straight. On Ascension Day, Germany's longest flea market takes place here, with around 2,000 tables set up along the canal.

The Elisabethfehn Canal is one of the so-called other inland waterways of the federal government and is the north-western part of the former Hunte-Ems Canal, which as a shipping canal connected the Hunte from Oldenburg to the Ems via the Leda.

As beautiful as the canal is, it is annoying to cycle along it - if, yes, if you drive on the wrong side.
In my opinion, the "wrong side" is the one on which you drive on bumpy pavement directly along the shore, that may look idyllic - comfortable cycling is better recommended on the opposite, paved side. Short-distance cyclists will also be happy on the bumpy route, because the canal is really beautiful - and the best thing is - it will remain navigable.
