The prehensile quills (Coendou) are a tree-dwelling genus of porcupine-related rodents in Latin America.
The tail of the prehensile quill is designed as a prehensile tail.
In contrast to other mammals with prehensile tails, the prehensile spine curls its tail upwards.
The front and rear extremities are converted into grasping organs, which makes climbing easier.
The entire body of adult animals is covered with thorn-like spines, only the prehensile tail does not have any.
