One of the statues of a larger whole on the lawn between the chapel (cultural house) and the entrance of the (deconsecrated) beguinage church. You will also see images of a group of Beguines and an image of the last two Beguines who lived here.

Work by Jan Peirelinck (the other statues of beguines nearby are not). Johanna Uitdewilligen and Bernardina Janssen were the last beguines to leave this courtyard in 1923. In the shadow of their church, every corner reminds us of centuries of female piety.

This is the text that was placed at the bottom of the statue. The statue stands in what used to be a cemetery. Under the plinth, digging has been done down to solid ground. In this case, this meant down to the skeletons of the deceased.
