Deciduous and coniferous forests that were created from 1944 in a part of the Noordoostpolder that is less suitable for agriculture, because of the peat, boulder clay and coarse sand that is in the soil here. The forest area is rich in mushrooms and birds, including the nuthatch and the lesser spotted woodpecker. There are various recreational facilities in the Voorsterbos: playing fields, nature trail and nature camping site De Stiente.
