Above the Sinntal valley, the border between the federal states of Hesse and Bavaria, or the predecessor territories of the Kingdom of Prussia (initial KP) and the Kingdom of Bavaria (KB), runs here. The historical border stones from the 19th century have been preserved here in large parts. However, this is not the ancient border. The Bishopric of Fulda once included Brückenau and extended beyond that to Hammelburg. It was only with the dissolution of the Bishopric of Fulda and the new borders during and after the Napoleonic era that some offices came to Bavaria in 1816.
