The Pfennigstube is a Renaissance substructure with an attached half-timbered floor. Here the salt carters had to pay their toll at the exit of the saltworks: 2 pfennigs per eighth of salt loaded (around 155 pounds). This is how the name “Pfennigstube” came about.
