De Kollebloem is a former pleasure garden that has been used as a holiday resort for children from Ghent since 1950.
The domain of more than 4 ha was purchased in 1997 by the city council.

The Kollebloem was originally a holiday home of the socialist mutual with a playground, camping facilities, a youth hostel and much more.
After the municipality of Destelbergen had purchased the domain, it started an upgrading plan in 2012: a multifunctional pavilion, a stately gatehouse with accompanying bicycle shed, garage and public toilets was built at the entrance.
The entire domain was set up as a nature zone and was officially opened on 26 May 2013.
There are petanque courts, a walking route, a fit-o-meter, a playground, a barefoot path, a bee hotel and a dog walking area.
