As such, the hermitage of Santa Maria de Bellvitge has been documented since 1279. Although the current structure is later, the original Romanesque walls are preserved below it. These are four or five meters below the current ground level. In this area, close to the Llobregat river, flooding was frequent, which is why the hermitage has undergone numerous reconstructions throughout its history.
