Scheibenhard and his neighboring municipality Scheibenhardt on the other side of the Lauter were until 1815 a village. The Congress of Vienna, which was supposed to restore princely rule in Europe and undo the French Revolution, finally ensured that from then on a border along the watercourse separated the two neighbors.

The town of Scheibenhardt is in Rhineland-Palatinate on the border with France. The river Lauter forms the national border here. South of the Lauter lies the town of Scheinhard in France. Both places merge seamlessly into one another. Disc hardt and disc hard were originally a community until 1815. In 1815, Prussia, Austria and Russia defined the Lauter as the border between Germany and France in the Second Peace of Paris.
