Built in 1481, the tower mill served to ensure a secure supply of flour in the event of a siege.
A mill tower with a diameter of 8.70 meters was built on a three-story lower bastion on the southwest side of the city, facing the favorable wind direction.
On February 7, 1642, a Hessian-French besieging army shot a breach in the wall next to the mill and captured the city.
The "Hessenwall" and "Hessenring" still commemorate this fact today.
