The name "route of structural change" takes a little getting used to and yet it shows exactly that very well. Namely, the sensible use of old train paths for local recreation. The route is beautifully laid out and connects the Hoheward colliery with Herten Westerholt. On the way it is worth stopping at the Eisen and Schlegel colliery.
A possible future highlight could be the existing tunnel through the Hoheward stockpile.

The Allee des Wandels is a wonderful old railway line from Westerholt to Halde Hoheward (or vice versa). One of the most beautiful routes in the area with wonderful views from above into the Emschertal and, in good weather, even as far as the heights of the Ruhr valley.
The route is to be extended from Westerholt to the Westerholt colliery and from there to the newly designed park of the former Hassel coking plant. From there a connection to the biomass park in Gelsenkirchen Beckhausen is to be realized ...
