Donated to the city by the Warriors' Association in 1910. At that time it had a young man leaning on his sword as a figure. The inscription read: "German Michel, you've awakened, take care of the new Reich!". In 1943 the figure was removed and melted down, the base of the monument remained empty for 12 years until it was rededicated as a peace monument in 1955. The figure now represents the shepherd girl Barbara.

Right next to the parish church of St. Nikolai is the market fountain “Girl Barbara with Fish” (Barbara Fountain). The fountain was originally built in 1910 to commemorate the Battle of Sedan. At that time there was a bronze figure of a German Michel in the middle. This figure was melted down for war purposes in 1943. In 1956 it was replaced by the bronze sculpture of the shepherd girl Barbara, created by Dorothea von Philipsborn.
