The Church of Celles, with its recently restored Romanesque bell tower, is perhaps the only one in Belgium to be dedicated to Saint Madelberte. She was Abbess of Maubeuge. Saint Hubert, bishop of Liège, had the relics of the saint transferred to Liège. It is not impossible that the convoy stopped at Celles, near the Roman road going from Bavay to Cologne (early 7th century)

With its restored Romanesque tower, it is undoubtedly the only church in Belgium dedicated to Sainte-Madelberte, Abbess of Maubeuge. Saint-Hubert, bishop of Tongres-Maastricht, had the relics of the saint transferred to Liège at the beginning of the 8th century. The convoy would have passed by Celles and would have stopped there, which is why the church is dedicated to him.
