Gotland is a Swedish island and historical province. The second largest island in the Baltic Sea after Zealand (Denmark) and Funen (Denmark) and Saaremaa (Estonia) is located northeast of Öland. It takes its name from the Germanic tribe of Goths, who, according to the Gutasaga, at least partially left the island around the turn of the century to build large empires in the Mediterranean region on the continent, later as the East and West Goths.

Destination Gotland is a Swedish shipping company and a wholly owned subsidiary of the AB Gotland shipping company. It operates ferry lines from mainland Sweden to the island of Gotland. From the summer of 2007 to mid-2009, the transport company also operated a ferry service between Gotland and the island of Öland.
