The old slaughterhouse shows its former use with the depiction of an ox above the main portal. From 1742, the building on the Kranen supplemented the existing slaughterhouse, which was a little further up the river. Livestock were also slaughtered here. Back then, slaughterhouse waste was simply thrown into the river. The traders displayed their wares on so-called “meat benches” openly on the street.

Hard to believe that the building with its magnificent bull portal was something profane like a slaughterhouse. Great location directly on the Regnitz and definitely worth seeing!
