An air defense tower has stood on the Theresienwiese since 1940, and it became a safe haven for many Heilbronn residents in the last months of the Second World War. A visit to the tower takes you back to this time of bombing nights in an impressive way. (Source: Heilbronn.de)

This peculiar tower is located at the event area "Theresienwiese". It was built in 1940 as a high-rise bunker by the company Dyckerhoff & Widmann from Düsseldorf and has been a listed building since the 1990s.
An anti-aircraft gun could also be mounted on the tower for defense. The tower survived the war unscathed.
There is a point on the tower where you can get information about the tower itself as well as about the time and the air raids on Heilbronn. The tower can be visited via the Tourist Information Heilbronn.

The striking high bunker on Theresienwiese was built in autumn 1940 by the Luftgaukommando VII Munich, responsible for Heilbronn. In memory of the first Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General Walther Wever, who died in 1936, he received his name.

It is the only high-rise bunker that was built in Heilbronn specifically for air raid protection during the Second World War. Otherwise, the mostly very deep and spacious cellars under the private houses of the city center were mainly used here. There were also a few underground bunkers (e.g. under Kaiser-Friedrich-Platz).
