The Seville City Hall building is one of the most notable examples of Plateresque architecture in Andalusia. During the 15th century, due to the discovery of America and the city's growing importance and wealth, it was decided to create a new, larger and better-quality Chapter House and to relocate the Seville City Hall to the Plaza de San Francisco, a central commercial center. Its construction established the independence of civil and religious power. The original building occupies the southern sector of the current City Hall, with the "arquillo" (small arch) connecting to the Franciscan monastery.
