In 1684 this gate was provided with a gatehouse and called the shepherd's house. Shepherd's house because shepherd families lived in it. The name "Hirtentor", which has been used to this day, developed from this.
The "Hirtentor", the symbol of the Eggolsheim community and undoubtedly the "pearl" is located in the center of the village. It is a two-story gatehouse with a hipped roof, five to one axis and a timber frame. The community of Eggolsheim completely renovated the shepherd's gate in 1976/77 and it was given its current appearance. The shepherd's gate has been in operation since 1988.
