What was originally an Arab citadel, an extension of a small Visigoth castle and a Roman fort, is located at the top of Sigüenza. Construction began in 1123 to serve as a palace-fortress and residence for the bishops who were lords of the city for seven centuries.

It has a beautiful chapel and a cell where some say that Doña Blanca de Borbón, wife repudiated by Pedro I the Cruel, lived until the moment of her exile.

The Arab fortress was built in the 5th century and was fortified by the Moors in 712. In 1123, the castle was taken by Fernando I El Cid and converted into a palace for Bishops. Many kings and cardinals inhabited the castle. At the end of 1800, the castle was empty before being restored in 1964 until the Parador was opened in 1976.
