Even if the tree trunk looks inviting to climb up, it is very slippery! Therefore, climbing over the rope/chain next to it is the safer option. Especially if the wall is damp and slippery, it is not easy to find your footing here. You need a firm grip on the rope; it is best to take sturdy gloves with you. Given the lack of hooks and eyes, a via ferrata set doesn't really help here.
