Various paintings and drawings were created on the walls of the former prisoner quarters. Most of these drawings were lost during the demolition of the former camp, with only a few fragments surviving. They were brought to the Berlin Museum of German History (now the German Historical Museum, DHM), but were forgotten there for a long time. It wasn't until 2009 that research into the history of the Ellrich camp led to the rediscovery of the frescoes, which have been on display at the Buchenwald Memorial since September 2011.

The Ellrich-Juliushütte satellite camp was an external camp from May 2, 1944 to April 6, 1945, for an average of 8,000 male concentration camp inmates. First, it was under the concentration camp Buchenwald and from 1 November 1944 the concentration camp Mittelbau. It was located on the site of a former gypsum factory in Juliushütte near Ellrich.
