The old farmhouse “Hiwwelhaus” in Alsweiler
The “Hiwwelhaus” (dialect for “house on the hill”) is probably the oldest original farmhouse of this style in Saarland. Characteristic components and furnishings of this “Southwest German Quereinhaus” provide a unique insight into the special features of the Saarland farmhouse culture of the 17th and 18th centuries. Between 1995 and 1998 the building was carefully renovated by the municipality of Marpingen. In 1998, a modern multifunctional hall was set up in the former stable, in which cultural events, exhibitions and seminars take place. (municipality of Marpingen)
