The Pfortmühle directly on the Weser is the oldest mill in Hamelin. The brick building, built in 1405, acquired its current shape after a fire in 1894. The turbine installed in 1912 can still be admired today. You can enjoy your meal in the building's restaurant, which was used as a mill until 1968. Today the cultural office and the Hamelin city archive are also located in the building.

The oldest mill in the city of Hameln
The Pfortmühle, built in 1405 and originally belonging to the city of Hamelin, became private property in 1879. The Hamelin entrepreneur Friedrich Wilhelm Meyer bought the Werdermühle in 1872 and had the current mill building built after the Pfortmühle fell victim to a fire in 1894/95.

As early as 1405, there was evidence of a gate mill built near the fish gate and named after it. The large building is structured by alternating yellow and red bricks and pilasters. On the Weser side, the attic is occupied by two female figures and a crowned coat of arms.
As part of the renovation of the old town, the building that was previously used as a mill was renovated for the purposes of the city library. The city archives and the city's cultural office have also been housed in the Pfortmühle since the end of 2003.
