The infamous Doodendraad stood at this location during the First World War. This fencing served to prevent refugees from fleeing from Belgium to the Netherlands. The various information boards provide a clear picture of the events. An authentic piece of the Death Wire is also available for viewing here.

During the First World War, the Germans erected the Death Wire along the entire border between the Netherlands and Belgium. This was a wire barrier where 2000 volts were set up to prevent Belgians from traveling to the Netherlands. A hundred years later, this wire has not been forgotten; a reconstruction was presented to the public in 2015.
