In this way, one wanted to largely avoid environmental damage in the further course of the channel and in the air ("acid rain").

The flue gas duct that is supposed to divert the poisonous exhaust gases to the chimney up the hill is double here at this point so that because of the nearby road, there is not so much damage and the gases could cool down faster.

The old flue gas chimney is visible here. This is where the toxic gases were discharged. The soil still shows traces of the toxic substances. Hardly anything grows in the immediate vicinity.
