The Schillerplatz was a cattle market from 1827. In 1905 the Schiller Monument was erected, which was replaced in 1989 by a bust created in the 19th century by the sculptor Johann Heinrich von Dannecker. The carved wooden coats of arms from 1993 were a gift from one of the three twin cities of the city of Backnang, the southern Hungarian city of Bácsalmás.

Yürüyüş

In the 19th century, today's Schillerplatz was still outside the closed development of the city. The three adjacent streets had given the open space its characteristic triangular shape. The property was used by changing private owners as a grass and tree garden. In 1827 the city bought the square and used it as a cattle market. The gymnasts from Backnang also held exercises there until 1878, says Helmut Bomm's book “What street signs tell”. In addition, housewives used the area as a laundry area.
