Haltern am See has been known as a recreational area beyond the region since the 1920s and is particularly popular with people from the nearby Ruhr area. The hotel was built in 1927, three years before the Haltern reservoir was flooded. The southern shore of the lake is located on Hullerner Straße, directly opposite the hotel parking lot. Even then, the hotel was a popular destination for day-trippers and short-stay vacationers, and it remains so today. The hotel has been owned by the Kandaouroff family since 1997.
