This monument, which the hiker/walker encounters in Trnava, is dedicated to Saint Joseph, the foster father of Jesus Christ. Like Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, he is a man on the threshold of the Old and New Testaments. Joseph came from the House of David, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was a carpenter by profession and the betrothed of the Mother of God Mary.
The feast day of Saint Joseph in the calendar of saints is March 19th, and the Church also celebrates the feast of Joseph the Worker on May 1st.
