    The ST. LUDGERI CHURCH was built around 1180 in the Romanesque style. The striking crossing tower has two Romanesque floors, after 1383 it was increased by two Gothic floors. The post-war glazing of the windows in the Gothic high choir was made by Vincenz Pieper.

    The first bishop of Münster was elected patron of the Ludgeri Church. Liudger, born around 742 in Friesland and died in 809 in Billerbeck near Munster, was commissioned by Charlemagne to proselytize the Saxons. The founding of a mission station by Liudger near St. Paul's Cathedral was also the nucleus of the city of Münster. In 805 Liudger was appointed bishop of Munster.
