This impressive monument of industrial architecture was built in 1903 as a power station that served to drain the pits of the Ems lead and silver works. At that time the mine reached up to the 16th excavation level, at times employed over 1000 workers and was one of the most important in the Rhineland.

Walking across the Lahn Bridge, you can see the imposing brick facade of the former lead and silver works in the distance, a reference to the town's mining history. The building dates back to 1903, the Art Nouveau era, which also influenced the architecture of that time.

Behind it is the Bad Ems-West train station.

Thanks to AlexaE we finally know what this really great building used to house.
We would also like to add that today there is a supermarket, a drugstore and a bakery with a café.
And without spoiling the really beautiful facade.
A really impressive example of how such a historic building can be used sensibly.
