The history of the town church dates back to the 11th century. On today's building can be found traces of three construction epochs. The Romanesque tower is the oldest part of the church, the roof of the tower is a late baroque design and the nave was built in neoclassical style.

The interior impresses with its simplicity. And: for pilgrims there is a stamp in the vestibule.

The first church here in Wermelskirchen was a small wooden church,
in the 9th century on the market, where today's Ev. City Church stands, to
when the city was founded. First, the church contributed
not the name of a patron saint, but of the donor who
possibly called Werimbold or Wermbold, from which our
City name emerged from Wermboldskirchen after several
Variants to today's Wermelskirchen. The church is
