The church of San Damiano in Assisi is a place of great religious importance. It is said that Saint Francis of Assisi, in 1205, received a vision of Christ asking him to "repair his house which is falling into ruin". This event inspired the Saint, who composed the Canticle of the Creatures here. The church, guardian of a particular crucifix, also became the place where Santa Chiara founded a cloistered order. History tells of numerous miracles associated with this church, including the multiplication of bread and healings.

Outside the historic city walls of Assisi, in a very picturesque location surrounded by fields and olive trees, we are at the place where Francis was called: when he prayed for the right path and - according to tradition - Christ spoke to him from the cross. A little later, a monastery was built here and became the spiritual home of Saint CLARA and her companions. Over the centuries, San Damiano has remained a spiritual place and continues to fascinate modern people today.
