A new local recreation area has existed on the city limits between Dortmund-Mengede and Castrop-Rauxel-Ickern for several years. Designed as a flood retention basin (HRB for short), it is primarily intended to protect downward-facing settlement areas. The HRB, through which the Emscher flows, also opens up unique natural spaces, many rare bird species find new breeding and resting areas here.

One of the most beautiful places along the way. From here in the direction of Dortmund begins the most beautiful part of the way. There are a total of 6 pools, all of which can be bypassed. There are also rest stops and restaurants along the way.
