These rocks are a scenic highlight of the Altmühltal Nature Park. From the bike path, you can see the impressive rock formation known as the Twelve Apostles, standing vertically on the riverbank.
The rock towers are made of sponge limestone, a type of rock that weathers more slowly than the surrounding White Jurassic limestone. For this reason, the Twelve Apostles have gradually formed out of the surrounding sloping hillsides over the years, resulting in the beautiful rock formation we see today.

Wonderful view of the "12 Apostles" rock formation. The "Twelve Apostles" are a rock group worth seeing in a dry Jura slope and here you have a perfect "photo station" right on the bike path.
