The regional museum was founded in 1879 by citizens interested in local history. Today it is housed in two half-timbered houses with ancillary buildings and inner courtyards, which are under monument protection and were built in the late 17th century for Alsfeld patrician families.
Unfortunately the museum is currently closed due to renovation work!

The regional museum was created from the two patrician houses (Minnigerode and Neurath) as part of the renovation of the old town of Alsfeld in 1975/77. These include the courtyards behind and a barn. In addition, the museum was connected to the pedestrian zone. Furthermore, rooms for the city representation, for lectures and exhibitions as well as a "Serenadenhof" were created and thus proved that it is possible to preserve historically valuable buildings in a modern world and to show them off impressively.
