The greenway along the Doubs offers a superb view of the citadel of Besançon. This masterpiece by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, military engineer to Louis XIV, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A stroll is essential, and why not, a visit to one of its three museums.

If you drive from the east (e.g. Baume-les-Dames) on the EV6 to Besancon, you are on a very beautiful river bike path in nature. Then you have a view of the Besancon Citadel and you are led to the edge of the city center, as the suburbs of Besancon do not expand directly on the river.
