The highest point in Wilhelmshaven, the Rüstringer Berg, is a sand-covered gun emplacement from the Second World War. With a height of 13.5 meters, the Rüstringer Berg towers over the dykes by 6 meters. It is located next to the oil port on the new Heppenser sea dike.

During the reclamation of new land in Voslapper Groden, the water management authority had the architects Iwersen and Kucan draw up a "Rüstringer Berg monument plan". The Federal Property Office, the Waterways and Shipping Office and the city approved the plan. The facility was opened to the public on November 20, 1977.

At 13.6 m, the highest elevation in Wilhelmshaven. From here you have a good view of the oil port. On the top of the mountain is the pavilion-like copper roof of the package reception building of the former telegraph and post office, which was destroyed on 15/17/1/1941.
