The Trinity Church was built between 1650 and 1652 as a replacement for the Marienkirche, which stood on today's Lotsekanal in Harburg's inland port. It was destroyed in World War II. Today only the west wall with the baroque entrance portal and the fragment of a figure of Christ remain as a war memorial.
Between 1962 and 1966, a new building was built behind the old portal according to plans by the architects Spengelin. Likewise the new free-standing bell tower.
