Founded in 1782 by Greek prince Alexandros Ypsilantis, the Kalopetra Monastery holds a remarkable history. Legend has it that, during a storm, Ypsilantis prayed to the Virgin Mary, promising to build a monastery in her honor if he survived. Guided by a mysterious light, he fulfilled his vow, and the inscribed church exterior narrates this story.

The monastery is a peaceful place with fantastic views over the surrounding area. It still operates as a monastery today. In summer, you can buy delicious pastries and cold drinks from women outside

From the monastery of Agios Kalopetra you can enjoy a beautiful view of the green mountains of the north. Here you can have a wonderful picnic after the ascent through the valley. In summer, elderly ladies from the surrounding villages sell pastries and cool drinks in the small monastery canteen.
