It is mentioned for the first time in 1588 in connection with the acquisition by the von Kottwitz family, who ruled the town until the 1830s. It has been rebuilt several times. In 1793, the lord of the manor at Sommerfeld Castle was mentioned as the Johanniter Knight George Friedrich von Beerfelde. His descendants rebuilt the castle from 1840 in the shape it still has today.

Lubsko Castle, which has been rebuilt several times and is now used as a sanatorium, is located in the north-west of the city center. Lubsko is one of the oldest cities in the region. The city was first mentioned in a document in the middle of the 13th century. There are no historical sources about the medieval castle, which was probably built on the site of the former castle.
