These beautiful cliffs you see here are the Donzère gorge. This natural site is not a gorge strictly speaking, in the sense that only one of the banks, in this case the left, has a very steep slope plunging directly into the river. This remains impressive, because the cliffs are high.

At this point, the Rhône narrows and the Defilé de Donzère gorge rises on the left downstream. The suspension bridge that crosses the Rhône at this point is also aptly named Pont de Robinet, the water tap bridge.

The white limestone cliffs on the east bank of the Rhone river offer a brilliant contrast to the blue sky and water, merging with the white clouds as if to justify their name: Défilé de Donzère. The caves have equally heavenly names, angels balm. Though actually, "baume" is a provencal dialect word for 'cave' ;-)
