A rich count hunted in the forests of this area long before the town even existed and was constantly pursuing a white deer without being able to catch it. Night fell and the count, who had lost all of his companions, had to seek rest on the bare ground of the forest floor.

All of this really happened. When the magician was killed, the count had to wet the deer three times with the water from the Krystallborn, whose three sources represented the three combined mountain waters: Schleuse, Erle and Nahe, whereupon the deer turned into a beautiful young lady.
The count married him and called himself and his family von der Brunstedt, founded the castle and town of Schleusingen, whose name was formed from the four mysterious letters S.L.U.S. and which kept the siren in its coat of arms as its symbol.
