Directly on the Werra are well preserved parts of the Themarer city wall. They give an interesting look at medieval fastening technology. The Werrawehr is also located on the city wall. A nice place for a rest, not just for romantics.

The erection of a fortified city wall with seven round towers was only approved by the Counts of Henneberg in 1457 and was erected from the 15th century.
The defense towers include According to the recent naming of the bridge gate, the half tower, the witch tower, the upper tower, the castle tower, the western corner tower and the meadow tower.
The urban complex, which was developed according to plan, was divided into four quarters:
the Oberstädter Viertel, the Brückenviertel, the Grabenviertel and the Marktviertel.
