Stairs lead up and from the top you have a view again! Beautiful, well-kept and preserved beacon made of wood, only an antenna structure right next to it has to be removed from the picture 😉
At the bottom of the stairs there is an interesting information board, among other things, about the nearby location of the former island church... from Baltrum☝️

The Peilbake, a navigation landmark, now serves more to hikers than sailors. On the fortified Möwendüne you also have a wide view of Norderney's dune landscape, the salt marshes and the Wadden Sea. The name Möwendüne comes from the fact that the seagulls like to breed here in summer.
The beacon is often confused with the postbake, which is a bit further to the west on the edge of the salt marshes. I am following the information in Wikipedia (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Baken_on_the_Ostfriesian_Islands) and other sources, while the website of Norderney shows it differently (norderney-tour.de/insel/postbake.html).

Very nice view over the dune landscape and salt marshes. Anyone who is here can continue hiking to the wreck or directly to the beach.
